The story begins when a dairy farmer, Patriarch Dougal Robertson, was a retired merchant navy officer. He planned a sea voyage in which he would go on a long journey with his entire family.
His family lived in an isolate area, so Robert thought that the family should be shown a little world. Which he called “Universe of the Sea”.
Their journey began on January 27, 1971. Patriarch built a wooden boat for himself, which was 43 feet long and was named Lucette. They traveled from port to port for about one and a half years.
During a BBC interview, Patriarch Dougal Robertson’s eldest son Douglas said that his father had prepared well for the voyage because he had served in the British Merchant Navy, so he knew how to prepare for the voyage. is. For the next 17 months, they traveled fine from port to port without any problems.

But the real game began when on 15 June 1972, reaching the Galapagos Islands, he encountered a whale in the sea.
There were whale fish around their boat. Then suddenly 3 whales attacked their boat and badly damaged the boat. This started filling the boat with water. They had only a lifeboat, a small boat and only six days of food to survive.
They collected rainwater for drinking, hunted turtles, and prayed that their boat would get a hit by waves so that they could head to the America. At this time they were in the middle of the sea.
After 16 days of whale attack, the condition of the boat had become very bad. Family could barely stay in that boat; but on July 23, 1972, some Japanese fishermen rescued him. All family members survived.

लेकिन असली खेल तब शुरू हुआ जब 15 जून 1972 को गैलापागोस द्वीप पहुँच कर समुद्र मे उनको व्हेल का सामना करना पड़ा।
उनकी बोट के आसपास whale मछलियाँ थी। तभी 3 व्हेल मछलियों ने उनकी नाव पर जोरदार हमला किया और उनकी नाव को बुरी तरह क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया। इससे नाव में पानी भरना शुरू हो गया । उनके पास जीवित रहने के लिए केवल एक जीवनरक्षक नौका (liveboat), एक छोटी नाव और सिर्फ छह दिन का भोजन था।
वे पीने के लिए बारिश का पानी इकट्ठा करते थे, कछुओं का शिकार करते थे, और दुआ करते थे कि उसकी boat को धक्का मिले और वो अमेरिका कि तरफ बढ़ सके। इस वक़्त वो समुद्र के बीच मे थे।
व्हेल के हमले के 16 दिन बाद नाव की हालत काफी खराब हो गई थी. परिवार मुश्किल से उस नाव में रह पा रहा था ; लेकिन 23 जुलाई 1972 को कुछ जापानी मछुआरों ने उन लोगो बचा लिया। परिवार के सभी सदस्य बाल-बाल बच गए।
