This is the story of a climber who was also a doctor. A story of a man who defeated all the challenges he faced. This is the story of Hugh Herr.

Herr had told the skill of climbing the mountain since childhood. At the age of 8, where other children generally play with toys, Herr had reached a height of 11,627 feet. By the age of 17, he had become America’s best climber.

But in January 1982, an accident changed his life. He was on Mount Washington with his friend Jeff Batzer, and there was snow all around. They had an accident, and they got stuck in one place for 3 nights. The temperature at that location(Great Gulf) was −29 °C.

By the time they were rescued, both of Herr’s legs were not working. Due to this, both his legs had to be amputated, and his friend’s left lower feet, right foot’s toe, and right-hand fingers had to be amputated.

A Person who has earned so much name since childhood with the help of his feet, today the same feet had left him. But where was he going to stop?

At the time of post-graduation in his medical studies, he started working on various leg prostheses and orthoses. Such prosthetic leg that functions like a actual human’s foot. In the end, after working hard, he got success, and he made those prosthetic legs.

He climbed using the same advanced prosthetic legs and became the first person who climbed with these advanced prosthetic legs.

यह एक ऐसे पर्वतारोही और डॉक्टर की कहानी है, जिनके सामने सारी चुनौतियां छोटी पड़ गईं। ये है Hugh Herr की कहानी।

Herr मे बचपन से ही पहाड़ पर चढ़ने का हुनर था। 8 साल की उम्र में, जहां बच्चे खिलौनों से खेलते हैं, Herr 11,627 फीट की ऊंचाई तक चढ़ गए थे। 17 साल की उम्र तक वे अमेरिका के सर्वश्रेष्ठ पर्वतारोही बन गए थे।

लेकिन जनवरी 1982 के एक हादसे ने उनकी जिंदगी बदल दी। वह अपने दोस्त Jeff Batzer के साथ माउंट वाशिंगटन पर थे और चारों तरफ बर्फ ही बर्फ थी। किसी कारण से उनका एक्सीडेंट हो गया और वे 3 रातों तक एक ही जगह फंस गए। उस जगह (ग्रेट गल्फ) का तापमान -29 डिग्री सेल्सियस था।

जब तक उन्हें बचाया गया, Herr के दोनों पैर काम नहीं कर रहे थे। इस वजह से उनके दोनों पैरों को काटना पड़ा और उनके दोस्त के बाएं निचले पैर, दाहिने पैर के अंगूठे और दाहिने हाथ की उंगलियों को काटना पड़ा।

एक शख्स जिसने बचपन से ही अपने पैरों के बल से इतना नाम कमाया है, आज वही पैर उसका साथ छोड़ गया था। लेकिन वो रुकने वाले कहां थे?

मेडिकल की पढ़ाई में पोस्ट ग्रेजुएशन के समय उन्होंने विभिन्न लेग प्रोस्थेसिस और ऑर्थोस पर काम करना शुरू कर दिया। एक तरह का ऐसा नकली पैर जो बिलकुल इंसान के पैर की तरह काम करता है। अंत में कड़ी मेहनत करने के बाद उन्हें सफलता मिली और उन्होंने उन लेग प्रोस्थेसिस को बनाया।

वह उन्हीं लेग प्रोस्थेसिस पैरों का उपयोग करके पहाड़ चढ़े और इन लेग प्रोस्थेसिस के साथ चढ़ने वाले पहले व्यक्ति बने।
